Fed Bought Just a Smattering of Corporate Bonds & Bond ETFs, Tiny Amounts of Junk Bonds.

It holds just $331 million of junk-bond ETF HYG, among just $12 billion in total corporate bonds and ETFs. But the Fed’s jawboning about breath-takingly huge purchases was enough to drive the bond market, including the junk-bond market, into foaming-at-the-mouth exuberance. Here are the details.

News of this nature never comes at a good time. The first message I opened this morning was from my friend, Roxane David, in Villa Obregón. The message was brief and to the point. Her husband, Ed Gilliam, died around midnight today of a heart attack. No life can be easily summarized in an essay. And it is even more difficult when larger-than-life personalities enter and exit our lives. Most of us knew Ed from his art. His love was abstract expressionism, a passion he acquired while studying art at Berkeley. Art formed the core of my relationship with him. But it was not how we met.
